About me

A Research Scholar in photography and psychology at the Ronin Institute (New Jersey), I am exploring the use of photography to achieve social change.  Some might call this ‘photographic activism’ overlapping with ‘humanitarian photography’. My primary interest is in applying the principles of behavioural economics through imagery to effect change on major issues at the community level.

Drawing on a background in behavioural science and psychotherapy, my projects also include various psychological themes and the use of imagery to explore these.

A tutor in psychology and counselling at the University of Oxford, and lecturer in photography at City of Oxford College, I recently retired as coordinator of higher education counselling courses at Guildford College. I love working with students of all abilities and experience.

Formerly, a volunteer for the Royal Photographic Society, I was Regional Organiser for Thames Valley and sub-editor of their documentary photography journal, Decisive Moment.  I am a member of the Sentient Media Writers’ Collective based in San Francisco, and am currently being mentored by Jaymi Heimbuch through the Conservation Visual Storytellers Academy. My more general documentary work is represented by Alamy.
