The Better Tutors’ Guide 2017

Images captured during a workshop for the University of Oxford Continuing Education Department Tutors in which they collaboratively wrote a guide for tutors to develop their teaching. The images are to serve as chapter separators.

It is widely accepted that education is the key to addressing many of the issues facing society throughout the world. Anything that can be done to improve the quality of education at all levels is important.

The University of Oxford Continuing Education Department is one of the largest extra-mural studies faculties in the country with over 1000 undergraduate level courses and 11000 students each year.

In May 2017, I was asked to run a workshop for tutors to explore how they might develop their teaching. While it wasn’t a project in the documentary photography sense, these images were taken to illustrate the ‘output’ from the workshop, a short book created in less than 90 minutes; the “Tutors’ Guide to Better Tutoring“.
